Our first stop was Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Rothenburg ob der Tauber is a popular destinaton for tourists coming to Germany and as soon as we stepped through the gates of the medieval walls we could immediately see why! It was like stepping into a fairytale. The city was founded in the 1200's and with a population of just over 5000 it was one of the largets cities in the Holy Roman Empire. We started out with a short tour of the city which included the town square with its impressive city hall, the gothic cathedral and a beautiful park where we could look down at the valley and back for a great view of the city's walls. After the tour we had some free time to explore, eat and finally realize that we were in Europe.
