Here&#8217;s where you can find his other 21 paintings."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Wednesday, November 15, a private collector <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/11\/15\/arts\/design\/leonardo-da-vinci-salvator-mundi-christies-auction.html\">paid a whopping $450.3 million<\/a> for Leonardo da Vinci\u2019s \u201cSalvator Mundi,\u201d a 15th-16th-century painting depicting Christ with one hand raised and the other holding a crystal sphere.<\/p>\n<p>The record-breaking sale means that the painting is the most expensive of all time. It also means the painting will remain, at least for now, the only one of the 22 verified da Vinci paintings that isn\u2019t available for public viewing.<\/p>\n<p>While \u201cSalvator Mundi\u201d may be off limits, you can still put the other 21 on your bucket list. Here\u2019s a list of where to go to see the rest of Leonardo\u2019s paintings, and which of our tours will bring you there.<\/p>\n<h3><b>Italy<\/b><\/h3>\n<div id=\"attachment_7182\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7182\" class=\"wp-image-7182 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.explorica.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/adoration-of-the-magi-300x290.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"290\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-7182\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u201cAdoration of the Magi\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Italy gets the top prize for the most Leonardos: Eight of his known works are in Italy, with three of them at the <b>Uffizi Gallery in Florence<\/b>, including the unfinished \u201cAdoration of the Magi,\u201d and one at the <b>Vatican Museum in Rome<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>Not only do they have the da Vincis, both museums are architectural and artistic marvels in their own right. You can visit both in our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.explorica.ca\/educational-tours\/the-art-of-france-and-italy.aspx\">Art of France &amp; Italy tour<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Milan and Parma share the other four paintings in Italy, the most famous being \u201cThe Last Supper\u201d at the <b>Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan<\/b>, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Talk to your program coordinator about working a visit to the convent into any of our tours to Milan.<\/p>\n<h3><b>France<\/b><\/h3>\n<div id=\"attachment_7183\" style=\"width: 242px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7183\" class=\"wp-image-7183 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.explorica.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/john_baptist-232x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"232\" height=\"300\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-7183\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">&#8220;St. John the Baptist&#8221;<\/p><\/div>\n<p>France follows Italy with the most Leonardos in the world, with six on display at, you guessed it, <b>The Louvre in Paris<\/b>. The Louvre contains some of the most famous art in the world, including arguably the most famous, the \u201cMona Lisa.\u201d In fact, a former art director of the Louvre speculated that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/10\/11\/arts\/design\/11voge.html\">80% of its visitors<\/a> only visit the \u201cMona Lisa\u201d before leaving the museum.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019d recommend that you spend a little more time there, especially to get a glimpse at \u201cSt. John the Baptist\u201d and \u201cThe Virgin of the Rocks.\u201d For a visit to the Louvre and some of da Vinci\u2019s Italian works listed above, you can\u2019t go wrong with our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.explorica.ca\/educational-tours\/the-art-of-france-and-italy.aspx\">Art of France &amp; Italy tour<\/a>. However, don\u2019t forget that any Paris tour can be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.explorica.ca\/teachers\/custom-tours.aspx\">customized<\/a> to include a Louvre visit.<\/p>\n<h3><b>England<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>The <b>National Gallery in London <\/b>makes the list with two Leonardos, plus one that may have been partially painted by him.
