Links are provided for further information or support.<\/strong><\/header>\n<header><\/header>\n<header class=\"entry-header\"><strong><br \/>\nLearn the province<\/strong><\/header>\n<p>Research the background of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.gov.bc.ca\/gov\/content\/governments\/celebrating-british-columbia\/symbols-of-bc\">British Columbia flag<\/a> and form a committee to consider whether the current flag should be kept or changed. If the recommendation is to change it, what changes would you recommend and why?\u00a0 Remember a flag is to reflect history and inclusivity of your province.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Are the British Columbia indigenous people represented?<\/li>\n<li>Is there a theme you see among provincial and territorial flags?<\/li>\n<li>How important are symbols and flags to our identity as residents?<\/li>\n<li>What is the \u201cBritish\u201d connection?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Study some history<br \/>\n<\/strong>Dive deep into the history of British Columbia and some sites you\u2019ll visit on tour. Pick two or three locations or main events in the history of the province and explain why they are important.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>How did the building of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cs.mcgill.ca\/~rwest\/wikispeedia\/wpcd\/wp\/c\/Canadian_Pacific_Railway.htm\">railway across Canada<\/a> impact on British Columbian development and settlement? Is the railway still important today? Explain.<\/li>\n<li>Research and discuss the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/history\/EPISCONTENTSE1EP14CH3PA3LE.html\">Japanese internment<\/a> during World War II. What role has Asian immigration had on the history and development of the province?<\/li>\n<li>What role have (and do) First Nations have in B.C. today? What are some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aadnc-aandc.gc.ca\/eng\/1100100021072\/1314814694660\">success stories<\/a> to celebrate?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Get creative<br \/>\n<\/strong>Organize your art supplies and get painting! Pick a location you\u2019ll visit on your trip or a virtual visit and compare your artwork to photos of the location when you return. \u00a0Consider painting or taking a photo of the <a href=\"http:\/\/stanleyparkvan.com\/stanley-park-van-attractions-totem-poles.html\">Stanley Park totem poles<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.capbridge.com\/\">Capilano Suspension Bridge<\/a>, or the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.butchartgardens.com\/\">Butchart Gardens<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pick a film<br \/>\n<\/strong>Watch a movie or TV show that was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tourismvancouver.com\/vancouver\/filmed-in-vancouver\/\">filmed in (or relates to) British Columbia<\/a>. Why is B.C. such an attractive province to shoot films or television programs? Are there any movies or television shows made in B.C. that surprise you?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Understand the culture<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>British Columbia has relied heavily on immigration. What regions of the world are most represented and how has this influenced life in B.C.?<\/li>\n<li>If you could buy one souvenir from B.C. that represents B.C. culture, what would it be?<\/li>\n<li>Revisit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.olympic.org\/vancouver-2010\">2010 Winter Olympics<\/a> and identify Canada\u2019s top athletes.<\/li>\n<li>What is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca\/en\/article\/spirit-bear\">\u201cSpirit Bear\u201d<\/a> and why is it so significant in First Nations culture in B.C.?<\/li>\n<li>What are some <a href=\"https:\/\/au-keepexploring.canada.travel\/things-to-do\/foods-in-season-british-columbia\">classic B.C. foods<\/a>?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Examine the economy<br \/>\n<\/strong>Research British Columbia\u2019s top industries.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>How important is the environment to B.C. residents?
