There are over 630 <a href=\"https:\/\/theculturetrip.com\/north-america\/canada\/articles\/9-things-you-need-to-know-about-canadas-first-nations\/\">First Nations communities<\/a> in Canada, with more than half of them located in British Columbia and Ontario. Throughout these communities, more than 50 distinct languages are spoken. Historically, each community was self-governed and had its own culture and customs. Listen to some interesting Canadian history with the <a href=\"https:\/\/coolcanadianhistory.com\/\">Cool Canadian History podcast<\/a>, where you will hear about nuns on the frontier, a Canadian Pirate Queen, the Canadian experience during D-Day, and more.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Choose a book<br \/>\n<\/strong>Read and discuss a book that takes place in your destination or describes the local culture. Start your meal off with a bowl of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seasonsandsuppers.ca\/quebec-style-yellow-split-pea-soup\/\">yellow pea soup<\/a>, followed by dishes like baked ham, scrambled eggs, sausages, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.davidlebovitz.com\/the-joy-of-cooking-meat-pie-recipe-tourtiere\/\">tourtiere<\/a> (Quebec\u2019s famous meat pie), baked beans, <a href=\"https:\/\/food52.com\/recipes\/61068-cretons-french-canadian-pork-pate\">cretons<\/a> (a pork-based p\u00e2t\u00e9), and deep-fried pork rinds known as <em>oreilles de crises<\/em> (which translates literally to \u201cChrist\u2019s ears\u201d).
